Following the July release of “Hurt” and the recent drop of “Sex,” 2hollis has unveiled his fifth studio album, Pirouette, which is slated for a fall arrival. The project features cover artwork by Yoshitaka Amano, the legendary Japanese artist renowned for his contributions to the Final Fantasy franchise, and the third single “Warhorse” lands today.
“There is a delicate, sensitive quality to 2hollis that aligned perfectly with the image I had in mind for the artwork,” the Final Fantasy icon commented about the collaboration. “He felt very close to the kind of character I have always drawn — as though he had stepped directly out of one of my paintings.”
“Rather than having to adapt my style to fit him, I was able to place him naturally within my own world,” he continued. “The piece feels deeply connected to the work I have been creating throughout my career.”
The 22-year-old phenomenon first introduced “Warhorse” in a Bonnaroo performance last year, and since then it has become a beloved unreleased track among fans (I wrote about his expansive, exhilarating unreleased catalog for frequent Stereogum contributor Eli Enis’ Chasing Sundays blog). “Warhorse” samples DJ Clap’s 2012 track “Don’t Tell,” and although a rough version circulated for a while, this official rendition is fully crystallized, transformed into a chaotic, booming standout. “I’m on FaceTime with a demon”?
