Magdalena Mclean is best known for her work with caroline, the acclaimed British post-rock collective whose most recent release earned the designation Album Of The Week. She also contributes with the art-punk outfit the Umlauts, alongside Annabelle Mödlinger, and the two of them steer a separate project called Curbside Lambsear. They’ve been hitting the live circuit for some time, but their hypnotic debut single, Man The Door, is out today. The track unfolds over six minutes as a meditative piece anchored by the ethereal repetition of a phrase about needing someone now, a line that gradually loses its concrete meaning as it loops, morphing into an addictive sonic drift through a dreamlike atmosphere. The track also features appearances from caroline’s Jasper Llewellyn and the Umlauts’ Alfred Lear. Dive in below.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
