In 2024, Closebye drew notice by releasing their second independent effort, Hammer Of My Own. The New York-based indie rock outfit returns today with their first new material since that release, presenting two tracks titled “No Troubles Left At All” and “Ann Arbor.”
“‘No Troubles Left At All’ unfolded at a curious moment when the four of us in Closebye had just wrapped the next record after dedicating more than a year to its creation, and a break from the studio felt naturally overdue,” explains Jonah Smith, continuing:
Instead, one evening I woke up to a spontaneous surge of optimism and inspiration and stayed up until 7 a.m. writing and recording the demo for “No Troubles Left At All” in a single session. The song carried such immediacy and excitement that we set ourselves a deadline to finish and release it as quickly as we could. “Ann Arbor” emerged from that same burst of creativity, so presenting them as an A/B single felt like a natural move. These are the first songs we’ve ever self-produced as a band, and that made the whole process incredibly exhilarating. Everyone had an equal voice in shaping the arrangements and production. Tyler Postiglione at Thump Recording helped us push the ideas further and bring them to the finish line.
Lyrically, “No Troubles Left At All” chronicles my first year of sobriety and the sense that I’ve finally passed through the hardest part. It delves into finding a rhythm within my relationship and within myself, acknowledging everything my partner and I went through to arrive at this point, while also celebrating that life has begun to click in a way that feels fresh to both of us.
“No Troubles Left At All” arrives with a music video directed by bassist Margaux Bouchegnies (who also pursues solo work as Margaux). Check it out below along with “Ann Arbor.”
