Starcleaner Reunion Announces Debut Album With Umbrella — Listen to ‘Never Even or Odd’

July 9, 2026

New York’s Starcleaner Reunion has been on our radar for a couple of years now. In 2024, we named them one of the year’s Best New Artists and praised their sophomore EP Cafe Life as a standout among EPs. Last month they returned with new music through the single “Weather Instrument.” Today, they’re back with another single “Never Odd Or Even” to announce their debut album Umbrella that’s slated for release in September.

“Never Odd Or Even” is a woozy indie rock track that drifts with a vibe reminiscent of Crumb’s psychedelic allure. The vocals glide softly and spread out, unfurling alongside winding ribbons of guitar work. In a press release the band shared that:

“Never Odd or Even” is about the anticipation of sharing secrets. Some of them can be entertaining while others could reveal dark things. This song explores the experience of a personal secret leaving that protective space in someone’s mind. The push and pull dynamic of the music, bouncing between propulsive motorik rush and 5/4 waltz, mimics that trajectory between that excitement and unimaginable darkness.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
