Roxette have scrapped their forthcoming North American tour.
The Swedish duo are currently on a European trek to celebrate four decades since their debut and disclosed the news via a post on social media on Friday.
In the release, the group cited logistical hurdles and considerably higher touring costs as the reason for postponement, stating, “Due to logistics and hugely increased touring costs, Live Nation US has decided to postpone the North American tour. Hope to see you some other time down the road.” The message was signed “Team Rox”.
On Saturday, founder and frontman Per Gessle followed up with a personal note, telling fans that the decision rested solely with the promoter Live Nation.
“Lena (Philipsson), I and the band are of course disappointed. We were really looking forward to this North American tour and the US is by far our biggest streaming market. This decision was made by Live Nation USA, which they probably based on their own calculations. I hope we can play for our fab fans in the USA and Canada at some point in the near future.”
Ticket holders for the US and Canada dates were informed that refunds would be issued for the shows, even though the notice described the update as a “postponement”.
The group had been scheduled to perform in amphitheatres across North America, headlining a bill that also featured 1980s staples Taylor Dayne and Nick Lowe.
The cancellation arrives soon after Roxette’s 1990 hit It Must Have Been Love officially joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club.
