Paris Jackson has discussed the decision to end her engagement with Justin Long.
The 28-year-old, the daughter of Michael Jackson, announced her engagement to the music producer in December 2024 after dating for two years. However, in August of the following year she disclosed that the relationship had ended.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday, Paris explained the reasons behind calling off the engagement.
“I needed to make that choice to pursue happiness,” she shared. “There were moments when I tried to end things, but there was a small inner voice saying, ‘What if down the line…?’ It’s the kind of question many of us hear: ‘If I’d just held on a little longer, would it have improved?’ I am someone who must be certain—really certain.”
She said she sought guidance from her therapist, a clinical psychologist, a coach and a whole circle of advisors, and ultimately concluded that Justin wasn’t the right match for her.
“They were prompting me with the right questions, like, ‘Why would you stay?’ And my answers weren’t good enough,” she recalled. “I’ve learned that being a good person doesn’t automatically make someone my person, and I deserve to be happy. I now recognize that my non-negotiables are legitimate non-negotiables.”
Paris added, “If those fundamental needs aren’t met, it doesn’t matter that someone is kind or faithful—it’s not a reason to stay.”
The actress also revealed that she had been secretly engaged to someone else before Long and ended that relationship as well.
“The first one—whether you count it as the first engagement or not—felt real to me, even though we were using drugs at the time, and the ring had been bought with my money without my knowledge,” she disclosed.
Six years sober, Paris noted that after the second engagement ended she took time to work on herself and realized she could be a little more selective with her future partners.
“The bar can be raised a bit because it has historically been set very low,” she candidly admitted.
Asked about her current dating life, Paris teased that she is presently in a happy place.
