Dexter Story, the expansive project led by Los Angeles-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Dexter Gordon, released an album earlier this year titled Inner. Now he returns to unveil its successor, T’som, with the lead single “Mama” featuring Sudan Archives and Kamasi Washington.
T’som draws its name from the word for fasting in Afro-Semitic languages such as Tigrinya and Amharic, and it also appears in Arabic; the record centers on this spiritual practice as its muse. In addition to Sudan Archives and Kamasi Washington, contributors include Carlos Niño, Jimetta Rose, and Kibrom Birhane. Listen to “Mama” below.
