The Spook School Return With New Album Like A Heartbeat; Listen to Falling

August 25, 2026

In 2019, Spook School announced its dissolution. Today, the Scottish indie-pop outfit is coming back together to unveil a fresh album titled Like A Heartbeat, with the lead single “Falling” released now.

“We really aimed to return with a sense of immediacy and vitality,” explains Nye Todd. “We didn’t want listeners to hear that we’d taken a break and assume we’re now older, gentler, and more mellow. The goal was to hit at full speed and drive straight into people’s ears.”

The band names Radioactivity, the Beths, Alvvays, Swearin’, and Bad Moves as influences shaping their latest batch of songs. Like A Heartbeat was tracked with Rod Jones of Idlewild at his Post Electric Studio in Leith, Edinburgh. Listen to “Falling” below.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
