Aly & AJ have abruptly axed their November and December tour dates.
The development follows Aly Michalka, one half of the musical sister duo, securing a chance to make her Broadway debut.
In a message shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Aly announced that the pair would be unable to perform the dates scheduled to begin on 28 November in Cincinnati, completing a tour across 14 North American cities through 19 December.
She noted that she will be making her Broadway debut this autumn portraying Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife, in & Juliet, a role she described as one she “couldn’t pass up”.
“Unfortunately, that means we won’t be able to play our November and December tour dates as planned,” the caption reads.
“We’re so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to these shows. We were too, and we don’t take for granted the time, travel, and planning that goes into coming to see us.”
As a gesture to fans who had hoped to attend, Aly & AJ released an unreleased live album, made available for free download or streaming.
“Since we can’t spend those nights together, we wanted to give you a little something from the road,” Aly wrote. “We love you and can’t wait to see you again soon.”
& Juliet is a successful pop musical that imagines a new life for Juliet after Romeo’s death, with a soundtrack that includes songs by Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and the Backstreet Boys. It opened on Broadway in October 2022 and is booking through May of the coming year.
