Cardi B has opened up about how she managed to beat the odds when balancing a demanding career with motherhood.
The rapper is a mother to four children—Kulture, eight; Wave, four; Blossom, 23 months, and a nine-month-old son.
The Grammy-winning artist has spoken about her drive to demonstrate that a high-powered career and parenthood can coexist.
“I don’t want to say I’m setting an example,” Cardi told Vogue. “But I think I’ve shown many women that you can keep working hard and still defy the odds while having a baby, despite the media scrutiny and critics, and you can get your job done.”
She added, “I do my best to keep my kids close as much as possible, but there are times I can’t be with them. Mothers have to make sacrifices. It’s sad, but we need to look at the bigger picture. I hope my kids see what I do and understand, ‘Mom was working her butt off.’ She wasn’t clubbing, dating, or partying… Instead, she was making sacrifices for a better life, you know what I mean?”
The 33-year-old later earned Best Rap Album at the Grammys for Invasion of Privacy in 2019, making her the first solo female rapper to win the category.
