J. Cole scrapped his Sacramento gig mere hours before he was due to take the stage after a member of his touring crew died in a crash while transporting equipment for the date.
Golden 1 Center confirmed the development on Thursday, August 27, 2026, releasing a statement that acknowledged the tragedy and said the concert would not go ahead.
A venue spokesperson stated: “Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s show scheduled for tonight, August 27, at Golden 1 Center has been canceled. Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The fatal incident occurred shortly after 6am on Interstate 5 in Yolo County. According to the California Highway Patrol, the lorry drifted onto the right shoulder before the driver attempted to steer back into the lane, causing the vehicle to overturn. No other vehicles were involved.
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 66-year-old Jarlath Parkinson of South Carolina. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.
CHP Sgt David Barker said investigators had not yet determined what caused the lorry to veer off course, noting it was possible the driver had been distracted or fallen asleep.
Cole is currently on his Fall-Off World Tour, with the 41-year-old rapper due to play several California stops, including two nights in Oakland this weekend, followed by shows at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on September 1 and the Intuit Dome in Inglewood on September 3.
