AZ Chike has spent nearly a decade crafting music that’s playful and brazenly disrespectful. Earlier this year in June, his track “Packed Up” earned a spot on our 5 Best Songs Of The Week list. The rapper likely received his biggest exposure to date in 2024 when he traded verses with Kendrick Lamar on “Peekaboo,” a track on Kendrick’s GNX album. He’s about to hit the road for a tour, and his album No Rest For The Wicked is slated for release next month. Today, AZ Chike pairs with Tyler on “Look Like My Mama,” a lively new exchange filled with competitive bars.
Tyler handled the production, laying down a funky, cartoonish beat. The track features no traditional chorus; instead, the two MCs volley punchlines back and forth in a tag-team style that feels like a first-time collaboration between two rappers who’ve never shared a cut before. (There’s a writing credit for 50 Cent on the track, though the reason isn’t immediately clear—perhaps tied to a sample.) The accompanying video, directed by Stacking Memories, is a playful montage in which Tyler and AZ Chike re-create scenes from a handful of films: Napoleon Dynamite, Dead Presidents, Paid In Full, Sinners, and Men In Black.
