September has arrived, signaling that Perennial’s Modernism is nearing its release. We’ve already heard tracks like “What’s New On The Beat Scene,” “Modernism,” and “Ready! Steady! Go!,” and today the New England-based trio unveils the brisk, lively closer “Emma Peel.”
“This is the shortest track on the record, yet it packs in more ideas than you might expect for its length,” says vocalist/guitarist Chad Jewitt. “Initially the song leaned entirely on a loud post-hardcore opening, but we were after something more adventurous for the bridge, so we gradually crafted a jazzy interlude—a minimal groove with vibraphone and mellotron. It’s a collage approach: trying out layers to see which combinations feel surprising together.”
