Earlier this year, Mike Watt linked up with J Mascis for a split release in which they reinterpret each other’s bands. Watt, one of the Minutemen’s founders, has kept a busy schedule since that project—most recently revealing a collaborative record with Thresher, an Ontario-based experimental noise-rock outfit. The record is titled Beekeeper and is due out next week.
The two Beekeeper tracks “Sip Of The Sweetness” and “The Bee Dance” are currently released. However, Watt has other projects brewing. In June, Mike Baggetta disclosed a new supergroup named Casa Sueño that includes Watt and John Herndon (Tortoise, father to 2hollis). They’re launching a tour later this month, with a lead single forthcoming. Watt and Baggetta had previously worked together in mssv. Separately, Watt’s other supergroup, Big Circle, issued a self-titled EP in July, and a few months earlier he shared reflections on the Minutemen in a profile for The New York Times.
