The LA-based sonic impressionist claire rousay remains prolific in collaboration, linking with peers such as more eaze, Grumpy, and William Tyler. Soon, she will release a little death, the solo album issued last year, followed by hotel room, a full-length collaboration with Polish ambient composer Martyna Basta.
The two artists crossed paths at an Unsound residency in Poland three years ago. After trading ideas, they assembled hotel room, an album built from three long, formless pieces and three short, buoyant ones. Basta explains, “It wasn’t something we set out to do; it simply unfolded that way.” Below, you can hear the chattering, vaguely unsettling LP closer “cool girls go to heaven.”
