In the previous year, Detroit-based Day Residue unleashed i love what you’ve done with the place, a fierce EP that stood out for its multifaceted, irritated punk energy. Since then, they issued a one-off track titled “Lackey.” Today, the outfit returns with two fresh singles, “Gag Order” and “Hypothetical,” continuing their strong streak.
On the rough-hewn brawler “Gag Order,” Day Residue keeps pouring fuel on their wrath, now directing it at complacency. “It’s getting fuckin’ atrocious/ You’re always getting stuck in the motions/ While everything is corroding/ You’ve still got nothing to say,” belts out the second verse. The track compels listeners to care, to raise their voices, to scream. And yes, it closes with a satisfying, piercing scream.
