Interlay hail from the Windy City, where they conjure a gusty, noise-saturated blend of melodic post-hardcore that some listeners might shelve under shoegaze. They’ve just revealed plans for their third EP, Snow Covers Your Insides, a Sylvia Plath-inspired outing, and shared its lead single, “Silo.” The combination of dramatic falsetto and a sprawling, doom-and-dread atmosphere calls to mind Sunny Day Real Estate’s How It Feels To Be Something On, yet there’s more to it: if Knifeplay ever reached its most epic, melodramatic heights, you’ll likely find this appealing.
“This song is inspired by a memory of staying up until 5AM on a friend’s farm with someone I loved,” says singer-guitarist Alexandria Ortgiesen. “The track centers on loneliness and the vivid recollections of the smoke, haze and fog over the farm Silo at dawn.” She adds, “I am really proud of using a Leslie, I love exploring ways in the studio and while writing to incorporate noise and feedback into parts to layer. I think it’s an interesting area to explore when it comes to guitar and makes up a lot of my identity as a guitarist.”
