Jacob Brunner is poised to drop the third Strawberry Hands record next week. The Philadelphia-born musician has already offered a glimpse of A Jazz Blessing For The Animal by releasing the captivating singles “Dream Of Water” and “What Plant Jumps Over Me?,” and today he reveals “Song Of Descent.”
“These are dispatches from the closing chapters of a major depression; a report from the other side while still cloaked in the sludge of the underworld,” Brunner explains. “After this extended journey, there is a sober hope: my fall from a bridge or into hell has transformed into a more fruitful descent into the unconscious, where the wisdom of impermanence and uncertainty loosens my grip.”
“Song Of Descent” unfolds with a haunting mood, yet by its end it rises into an almost sacred, psalm-like realm. The unease is intensified by a music video for the track directed by Joseph Paul Alvarado, featuring pig masks and fire. Watch below.
