Back in May, Bleachers dropped their fifth studio album, everyone for ten minutes, yet that release doesn’t signal the final burst of music from Jack Antonoff and his crew this year.
Today also sees the arrival of Practical Magic 2, the follow-up to the witchy 1998 rom-com starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, along with its accompanying soundtrack. In the wake of Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, Bullock sparked rumors of a collaboration between Rodrigo and Stevie Nicks for the film. The movie features Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” and Rodrigo’s “the cure,” but neither track makes it onto the soundtrack album. What does appear, besides Rupert Gregson-Williams’ score, are three new songs: Brandi Carlile’s cover of Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes,” Aldae’s “Blur”—a track that briefly had me thinking Damon Albarn’s old band was involved—and a fresh Bleachers cut called “Caught Myself Believing.”
“It was an absolute joy to get together as a band and make a song for this soundtrack. Practical Magic is such a beloved story,” Antonoff said. “I’m so glad the world gets a part two, and that Bleachers gets to play a small part in it.”
In other Bleachers news, the band kicked off a five-night, sold-out run at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on Thursday. During the show, Carly Rae Jepsen emerged to duet with Antonoff on an acoustic version of the early Bleachers single “I Wanna Get Better.”
