Lil Durk remains jailed despite Friday acquittal.
On September 11, a federal jury in Los Angeles found the rapper, whose birth name is Durk Banks, not guilty of arranging a murder-for-hire plot that left a man dead in Los Angeles four years earlier.
Prosecutors said he will remain in custody while his racketeering case, connected to the 2022 fatal shooting of Stephon Mack, is resolved. The separate racketeering-murder and firearms trial is scheduled for 5 October.
Challenger and rival rapper 6ix9ine, a longtime foe, managed to throw shade at Durk despite the court victory.
6ix9ine had plotted a ‘Lil Durk Going Away Party’ in case of a conviction, and he nevertheless staged a kind of celebration.
Posting a video on Instagram of him lighting fireworks and popping champagne, he reacted to the decision while taunting Durk over his deceased brother, Dontay ‘DThang’ Banks, and over King Von, who was signed to Durk’s label, Only the Family.
“Von dead. DThang dead. Durk still behind bars,” he captioned the post.
The murder-for-hire case centered on whether Durk had ordered a hit on Quando Rondo, whose legal name is Tyquian Bowman, as retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von. The August 2022 shooting at a petrol station instead claimed the life of Rondo’s 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.
