Lisa is confident she can always rely on the backing of her BLACKPINK sisters.
The performer behind As If It’s Your Last remains part of the quartet alongside Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé, and even as each member pursues individual projects, there’s no sense of rivalry—only a shared hope for one another’s success.
Speaking to E! News at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her documentary Always LaLisa, she explained: “They’re like sisters to me. They’re family. And even though we’re all doing solo work, we still stay in touch.”
“And even though Always LaLisa is nearing its release, they reached out to say, ‘Oh, we can’t wait to watch it!’”
Lisa hinted that the documentary will reveal dimensions of her artistry that fans have never seen before.
Asked what viewers should expect from Always LaLisa, she replied: “You’ll get to see all the behind‑the‑scenes, like how I work. I hope you enjoy it.”
The 29-year-old vocalist was born Pranpriya Manobal but recently disclosed that she legally changed her first name to Lalisa—the Thai phrase meaning “one who is praised”—when she was 13, following the suggestion of a fortune teller, and she remains happy with that choice.
She noted: “It’s always been me from the start. I feel like I’ve always been Lalisa.”
The White Lotus actress visited the fortune teller after auditioning to join the talent agency and record label YG Entertainment.
In a June interview with Vanity Fair, she commented: “I don’t know about the culture here, but in Thailand, visiting a fortune teller is a fun thing to do.”
After the fortune teller proposed the name change, Lisa recalled telling her, “You know what? I’ll do anything.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Lisa admitted she’s proud of what she’s accomplished with BLACKPINK.
She told ELLE: “On stage with BLACKPINK, I channel energy to my members. If one gives 100, I’ll respond with 120. That connection between us is something I treasure.”
While she has been concentrating on solo material recently, she remains devoted to the girl group.
“Of course we’re continuing, for sure,” she stated. “We’re incredibly proud of BLACKPINK, and I love the group. It isn’t just for our fans—it’s for us as well. There’s no doubt about it. This is our life.”
Her experiences as a solo artist have also helped her become more decisive in recent years, too.
She explained: “What I’ve learned from past situations is to voice what I like and what I don’t like. That’s crucial. If I say, ‘It’s fine,’ people might not know what I truly feel. I need to be able to say ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ not something in between.”
