At the start of this year, Bayonet unveiled a project in which musicians from their roster reinterpret tracks drawn from The Numero Group catalog. The fourth entry in the series is out today, featuring Dirt Buyer delivering an emo-tinged reading of Shira Small’s 1974 jazz classic “My Life’s All Right.”
“As a songwriter, I continually crave fresh sources of inspiration and reference, and I am habitually on the lookout for music that is new to my ears and for mythologies that capture my imagination,” Joe Sutkowski notes. “What I love about ethnomusicology in general, and about Numero Group in particular, is that it feels like being handed a treasure map that directs you toward something truly significant and special that has already been discovered for you, often accompanied by a pamphlet explaining what it is, why it matters, and how it came to exist. There is so much care and affection poured into each release, and they carry a distinct taste and sensibility that I can always rely on. I owe a great deal to Numero for its music-preservation efforts and for offering listeners an inexhaustible list of excellent options.”
