There isn’t an obvious Las Vegas vibe to the Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin, yet she chose that city as the backdrop for the video to her new track “If I Had The Hand Of God.” That decision proved to be a smart one. For the clip, longtime collaborator Nick Mckk follows Jacklin as she meanders through Vegas — a journey that touches the Sphere, the Caesar’s Palace ceiling, the windswept desert ridges surrounding the city, the quiet hotel corridors, and a host of other visually arresting facets unique to that metropolis. At times she dons a showgirl headdress. The look is striking and pairs beautifully with the song.
Come Friday, Jacklin is set to release her latest gem, The Gem, and we’ve already highlighted her tracks “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon),” “I Wish,” and “The Hardest Thing.” The newest offering, “If I Had The Hand Of God,” unfolds as a plaintive country-rock ramble with a subtle, self-assured swagger.
