In 1984, Anna Domino released a five-track mini-album East And West on Les Disques du Crépuscule, the Belgian indie label known for its ties to Tony Wilson’s Factory Records. The Tokyo-born musician had established herself in downtown New York, channeling the district’s mood through hazy, swim‑like avant-pop daydreams. Today, East And West is being reissued, this time under Domino’s own auspices.
East And West helped establish Domino as an underground icon, with artists such as Clairo, James K, HTRK, Carla Del Forno, Astrid Sonne, Horsegirl, and Smerz naming her as an influence. The reissue collects the original tracks alongside essential singles from that period, and adds seven previously unreleased demos, newly digitized from Anna’s four‑track tapes. “Happy To Go” is released today, and it arrives with a video featuring rare archival photographs of late ’70s and early ’80s New York City, captured by Domino herself.
