Roxy Music reveals never-before-heard Pyjamarama demo ahead of For Your Pleasure reissue

October 2, 2026

Roxy Music have disclosed a guitar-and-vocal demo of their 1973 smash ‘Pyjamarama’ that has never been released before. The spare, intimate take captures frontman Bryan Ferry refining the song on an acoustic guitar inside a secluded Derbyshire cottage, and it marks the first occasion Ferry wrote with a guitar in hand. The fragile performance highlights open-tuned chords and an improvised, scat-sung topline laid over the melody.

In tandem with the audio drop, fans can now view the band’s long-missing March 1973 performance of ‘Pyjamarama’ on Top of the Pops. The footage, initially erased from the BBC’s official archives, was recently recovered from a private collection owned by mobile disco DJ Roger Hill.

The rare demo acts as a teaser for the newly expanded Super Deluxe Edition of the band’s landmark second album, For Your Pleasure, due for release on 6 November 2026 via UMR/Island EMI. Issued in March 1973, the record established the Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Brian Eno, and Paul Thompson lineup as boundary-pushing icons of English art rock and also marked the final studio release to feature Eno’s synth contributions.

The forthcoming 3CD+DVD Super Deluxe Edition promises a thorough dive into the group’s creative process during a pivotal era. The box set gathers early songwriting sketches, AIR Studios outtakes, BBC Peel Sessions, instrumental tracks, and a DVD packed with rare television appearances from 1972 and 1973, including performances from Montreux and The Old Grey Whistle Test. Completing the package is a 116-page hardback book featuring unpublished archival photography and exclusive liner notes.

For Your Pleasure will be offered in a variety of formats, including a 2LP set, a 2CD edition, digital formats, Dolby Atmos, Blu-ray, and a Direct-to-Consumer exclusive Blue Pearl vinyl pressing. More than five decades after its original debut, Roxy Music’s opus stands as a benchmark for British popular music, blending avant-garde exploration with irresistibly catchy pop hooks. Pre-orders for all physical and digital formats are available now.
