Shady Bug, the St. Louis outfit that has just joined Julia’s War Recordings’ roster, is set to release its latest LP I wanted to be there toward the end of the month. Yes, October has arrived. They’ve already rolled out the lead single “my night routine,” and today they’ve followed it up with a new track titled “seed.”
“seed” commences in a jagged, discordant fashion. Whirring guitars and pounding drums erupt in bursts like an unrelenting panic attack. When the song finally eases and attempts to catch its breath, a thread of emotional clarity appears. “You planted a seed I never wanted you to / I just wanna feel fine, but now it all seems so screwed,” belts Hannah Rainey. The compact yet potent track encapsulates that frantic feeling of realizing how a fleeting presence can cast a longer shadow on one’s personal reality. Watch the video for “seed” below.
I wanted to be there is due out 10/30 on Julia’s War/Bee Side Cassettes. Pre-order it here.
