Council with Gabriel Kahane and Pekka Kuusisto Unveils Debut Album “This Day, Every Day” — Listen to Two Tracks

October 6, 2026

Gabriel Kahane, the Portland-born singer, songwriter, and composer, has already offered listeners a bold project this year with Elevator Songs, a theatrical, high-concept collaboration alongside the vocal ensemble Roomful Of Teeth. Today he reveals another collaborative LP, this time partnering with Finland’s Pekka Kuusisto under the banner Council.

Council’s inaugural album This Day, Every Day is slated for release before the month closes. The recording took place across three sessions in Reykjavík, Portland, and Los Angeles over the course of a year, from June 2024 to May 2025. Today we’re given a glimpse of two tracks. The opener “Panic,” featuring outro vocals by Elizabeth Ziman, unfolds as a softly mind-bending acoustic ballad performed by Kuusisto. “Every day, every day I keep trying,” he intones. “Don’t you know repetition is a form of change?” The other new track, “mirrorworld,” oscillates between chilly stillness and incendiary fervor—a Kahane-sung synth odyssey delivered in his distinctive, learned, and emotionally charged style.

Both songs are striking, so take a listen below.
