Beach Boys Call Off Comeback Concert

October 7, 2026

The Beach Boys have cancelled yet another anticipated reunion performance.

The Surfin’ USA outfit had been slated to take the stage again on 9 October in Bloomington, Illinois, after progressively scrapping dates over the past three months.

A post on the Grossinger Motors Arena’s Facebook page noted the show was “cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances”.

Co-founder and frontman Mike Love has been taking time to regroup after an undefined health issue, according to Rolling Stone.

The group’s last public appearance was on 18 July in Valdosta, Georgia, following a shaky few months during which Love looked gaunt and delivered a raspy, weakened vocal.

“Losing my sister Maureen on the first anniversary of cousin Brian’s death, coupled with my ongoing recovery from what started as bronchitis and later COVID, has taken an emotional and physical toll on me,” Love wrote to fans in June during a European tour marked by uneven performances.

“I feel stronger every day physically, but I am heartbroken emotionally.”

A month later, the band postponed all of its concerts until late September to give Love more time to rest. But as September arrived, the four scheduled shows were cancelled with no explanation.

On 3 October, Love and the touring crew, which often features John Stamos, assembled for an intimate performance in Dana Point, California. Details have been scarce, though a photo posted on the group’s fan forum shows Love seated in a chair onstage.

Al Jardine, the sole surviving member from the original Beach Boys lineup, continues to tour alongside veteran members of Brian Wilson’s backing group.
