Baby Wave: The Scene Is Evolving

October 7, 2026

Many of us here are into Soccer Mommy, right? Now, imagine how Soccer Mommy’s earlier tunes might have sounded if they carried heftier, ’90s-inspired fuzz-pop choruses. If that scenario came to life, you could end up with something akin to the new track from Baby Wave, a Nashville-based trio that has just secured a fresh deal with Saddle Creek.

Baby Wave came together at a 2021 Christmas gathering and soon became part of Nashville’s underground scene. They already boast a handful of singles and EPs, the most recent being still life, a 2024 collaboration with Total Wife. Now affiliated with Saddle Creek, they’re gearing up to release a full-length record, with the punchy, driving new single “The Scene Is Changing” produced by Sebastian Kinsler of Feeble Little Horse. In a press release, bandleader book NOT brooke offered the following reflection:

You can spend your entire life on the outside, feeling like you’ll never belong, and even if you do find “the scene” for a moment in time, you can spend the rest of your life jaded or living in the past. Every scene is destined to bloom and fizzle. I think it matters to honor that cycle for what it is. When we wrote this song, it felt like a character study, but now it rings truer than ever, and it makes me emotional every time. It feels like an ode to the ever-changing Nashville DIY scene.

book NOT brooke directed the clip for “The Scene Is Changing,” filming it at the Nashville house-show venue known as Ryman 2 — an impressively named spot. The cast features players from Nashville groups such as Impediment, McKay, Sabby, Soot, Superhero, Total Wife, and Venus And The Flytraps, and the story follows an owl-man who seems to have a playful and bewildering night at a Baby Wave show. After the clip, you’ll also find Baby Wave’s forthcoming tour dates.
