Last month, the cult-pop powerhouse Carly Rae Jepsen unveiled her unbelievably impressive double album Day And Night. It’s outstanding. Day And Night offers a substantial volume of music to soak up — 24 tracks split between the Day side and the Night side, clocking in at roughly an hour and 25 minutes of peak energy. It left you wanting more! Today, Jepsen presents Day And Night (Continued), a fresh deluxe edition of a record that was already extra special. It includes eight brand-new songs, and none of them feel like filler.
Jepsen has a storied history of penning more brilliant cuts than actually make the final cut for her albums; remember the timeless “Cut To The Feeling” which didn’t fit onto E•MO•TION or even the E•MO•TION Side B collection that followed. For Day And Night (Continued), she has added four new tracks to each half — four to the Day portion and four to the Night portion — pushing the overall runtime to 1 hour and 51 minutes. But what exactly were you planning to do with another 1 hour and 51 minutes of listening, anyway? Watch Scream? Watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall? Not likely. You were going to do something a little outrageous, now paired with a sharper soundtrack. (And yes, I did check the length of films that amount to 1 hour and 51 minutes.)
Given that you’re probably still digesting the 24 tracks from the original Day And Night, you might appreciate a quick guide to which entries are new to the deluxe edition. In the new version, Jepsen places the fresh songs at the ends of both halves, so the final four tracks on each side constitute the new material — “Reaching For A Star,” “Sixteen And Rising,” “Wedding Season,” and “Lullaby” on Day; “Yes,” “Muscle Memory,” “Love Depressed,” and “In Pure Faith” on Night.
