We’ve got another Slayyyter banger in the bag. The arc of Slayyyter’s 2026 run has already become the sort of thing future pop scholars will dissect for generations, and witnessing it has been nothing short of spectacular. In April, she dropped the dizzying, auteurist trash-pop statement WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, a release that landed at #1 on our mid-year list. Since then, she’s hit the road with a vengeance, playing to enormous, raucous crowds. (She even joined Turnstile onstage earlier this week.) In addition to touring, she’s issued a steady stream of fresh singles, and the companion album wor$t man in america is set to arrive later this year. Today she unveils a new single, and it’s utterly killer.
Following the album’s arrival, Slayyyter released the tracks “brand new chanel$” and “crank 2,” and they’re slick, but they pale next to the newest cut, “i think he’s got a girl.” This one abandons the maximalist blog-house piano trope in favor of something grander and more vulnerable, almost operatic in mood. The song was produced by Slayyyter’s regular collaborators Austin Corona and Wyatt Bernard, with writing credits shared among Slayyyter, Corona, Bernard, and Violet Skies. Put together, they’ve created something genuinely striking.
In “i think he’s got a girl,” Slayyyter threads the tale of creeping doubt that a lover might be cheating, a time-honored subject in pop but treated here with a fresh, aching clarity. On Twitter, she explains, “when i made this song it made me feel like a main character going thru some bullshit on the OC season finale or something…” The track opens with a new-wave throb, and the chorus erupts like fireworks lighting up a midnight sky. This could easily soundtrack a season-ender montage for The OC—one can picture Marissa, Summer, Seth, and Ryan all woven into the moment, or perhaps a singular character who is all of them.
Slayyyter directed the video for “i think he’s got a girl” herself, leaning hard into suburban ’50s-housewife postcard iconography with a razor-edged sensibility. Watch the video below.
wor$t man in america is scheduled for release on 12/4 via RECORDS/Columbia.
