Madonna recalls helicopters circling hospital during the birth of daughter Lourdes

Madonna has reflected on the birth of her daughter Lourdes Leon, calling it a “dramatic” moment from thirty years ago.

On Wednesday, the pop icon took to Instagram to share a carousel of throwback photographs featuring herself with her firstborn child.

In the caption that accompanied the post, she marked Lourdes’s 30th birthday.

“Happy Birthday My Lolita! You arrived to me in a Dream. A fever dream. A Dream called Life. If I attempted to write it all down, I would cry a river of tears,” she began the heartfelt message.

The Hung Up singer proceeded to recount Lourdes’s birth—often nicknamed Lola or Lolita—at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles on 14 October 1996.

“Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal, you were searching for the stars you were stuck. After 18 hours of labor and your heartbeat slowing, an emergency C-section was the only option,” the 68-year-old continued. “Did I mention the helicopters and news crews swirling above our heads on the top floor of the hospital in East LA? Your birth was dramatic. Like our lives.”

In another part of the post, Madonna described the connection with Lourdes as “Biblical” and urged her daughter to “never forget how to dream”.

“We are two sides of the same coin. If what we risk reveals what we value then I would risk it all on you. Never forget who you are. Little Star, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky,” she added.

Singer-dancer Lourdes has not publicly responded to the heartfelt message.

The mother-daughter duo recently co-wrote the song The Test, which appears on Madonna’s fifteenth studio album, Confessions II.
