Reflecting on the era when the UK rap anthem came together, Giggs spoke candidly about the lifestyle and mindset he carried at the time. “Back then I was living at ML’s mum’s place and I was moving wild. Affairs and all that,” he explained. “I wasn’t ready to grow up. I was a good dad, but I was still outside—one of those guys. Young, and a bit of a gangster, and I wrote Talking the Hardest while heading to someone else’s house.”
Giggs further disclosed that the track was assembled in two separate locations. “I wrote half of it at ML’s mum’s house, at our place, and I finished the rest while I was walking,” he told the Capital XTRA hosts.
When co-host Shayna Marie asked about what typically fills his social media feeds, the rapper brought a dose of humor to the segment. Commenting on his Instagram Explore page, Giggs quipped about the algorithm’s picks: “It’s full of eye-catching folks on there! It’s not my fault, I can’t explain why it ends up there.”
Giggs remains one of the most influential figures in British hip-hop, with Talking the Hardest widely regarded as a cornerstone in the history of UK rap. His forthcoming headline show at the OVO Arena Wembley in December represents a significant milestone for the veteran artist, bringing his vast catalogue of crowd-pleasers to one of London’s largest indoor venues.
