Harry Styles has honored his late One Direction colleague Liam Payne with a new, unreleased acoustic piece.
The artist unveiled the track during a live performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he is currently mid‑run in a residence as part of his Together, Together tour.
The concert, sold out, marked the second anniversary of Payne’s death at 31 after he fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In a clip shared by Billboard, Styles addressed the jam-packed venue, saying, “Two years ago today I lost one of my friends. I’m sure many of you have gone through similar moments. I hope you haven’t. But really, it’s about looking out for each other.”
The singer continued, “There are so many people who have touched my life in such meaningful ways that I wouldn’t be here without. I’m going to perform a song I wrote for my friend about two years ago, if that’s all right.”
After introducing the track as What Is Enough, Styles began the melodic ballad with lines such as, “I’m not wise enough/But I wrote you a letter just to burn it up/And watch it rise like you’re in the sky.”
Styles and Payne were original members of One Direction from the band’s inception in 2010 until its conclusion in 2015.
