Jonah Yano Unveils New Album, Spin Premieres Two Tracks

October 20, 2026

Jonah Yano, an artist whose work spans Canada and Japan, consistently appears on tracks with a notable roster of collaborators such as BADBADNOTGOOD, Mk.gee, Clairo, Ouri, and Jacques Greene. Yet Yano’s appeal isn’t solely tied to high-profile partners to command attention. His new album Spin, disclosed today, stands as another strong addition to a steadily growing and accomplished catalog.

The songs that form Spin came together in Montréal and on Japan’s Hokkaidō, before the project was captured in Mountain Grove, Ontario. The collection leans toward soft, reflective material that still pursues an expansive, ambitious scope, with two tracks released today. The title track “Spin” serves as a concise, bright motif for the project, evolving into a sweeping, glittering flare. “Holding On,” the other new piece, reads more like the lead single, a pensive and soulful cut that displays Yano’s falsetto and his talent for lush, intricate arrangements. It calls to mind this year’s standout Nick Hakim record.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
