East 17 are issuing a greatest-hits collection to mark their 35th anniversary.
The Stay Another Day pop group, formed by Tony Mortimer in 1991 alongside Brain Harvey, Terry Coldwell and John Hendy, burst onto the scene in the following year, and they are now preparing to release fully remastered versions of their most beloved tracks.
The Best Of is set to drop on December 4, with the band unveiling a brand-new Megamix crafted by The Alias.
The compilation will be offered in CD and vinyl formats, as well as an expanded 2CD/DCD edition boasting 10 remixed tracks and 16 restored official music videos.
Rounding out the package are previously unseen photographs by Lawrence Watson, renowned for his work within the ’80s New York City hip-hop scene.
The album is scheduled for release in time for the holiday season and will include their 1994 Christmas Number One hit.
Tony has previously explained that while Stay Another Day “doesn’t make” millions, the emotional ballad still “puts a bit of food on the table.”
In 2024, he told the Daily Star newspaper: “They still play it on the radio, and I’m grateful.”
“It doesn’t make me billions, unfortunately, in case you wondered! But it always puts a bit of food on the table and some petrol money, definitely.”
“It’s not a million a year, or whatever.”
However, he stressed that the track—written after his late brother Ollie took his own life—was never about the money.
He added: “It’s about the song, and the recognition of people loving it, and the fact that it’s going 30 years later.”
Meanwhile, Tony has confirmed there are no plans for East 17 to reunite, as he and his former bandmates haven’t spoken in “several years.”
He explained: “Me, Terry and John were under a record company, and that, kind of, ended badly with the company. So, we haven’t really spoken since then.”
“I think East 17 is viewed by outsiders as a living thing, but it doesn’t really exist anymore, at least not for us.”
“Obviously the name remains, and Stay Another Day always brings it back each year… We’ll always be linked to it. It’s odd.”
All formats of The Best of East 17 are now available to pre-order.
