Today marks New Music Friday, a moment that brings news of Mark William Lewis—the British baritone who became A24 Music’s inaugural signee—issuing the deluxe edition of his self-titled album from the previous year. The reissue adds five bonus tracks, four of which clearly inhabit the album’s bonus tier: Power Snatch’s interpretation of “Spit,” a Taylor Skye remix titled “Still Above,” a dub reworking of “Petals” by the Mad Professor, and a live rendition of “Ugly” captured at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre. Yet one new studio cut by Lewis also appears among the extras.
The track, called “Adrenaline,” preserves Lewis’s characteristic creeping, skewed mood. It glides so smoothly that it almost feels spectral, as if King Krule were partnering with Destroyer or the National dipping into neo-ambient textures. It might not ignite you as the title would promise, but it could quicken your breath and lift your pulse without you realizing it. Listen below, and you can also stream the complete deluxe edition.
Mark William Lewis (Deluxe) is available now through A24 Music.
