Rosalía Addresses Spain’s Train Crash During Award Acceptance

October 31, 2026

Rosalía took the stage at WSJ. Magazine’s Innovator Awards in New York on Thursday to reference the recent train disaster in her homeland as she accepted this year’s Music Innovator prize.

As she received the Music Innovator prize, the Spanish artist extended her sympathies to all those affected by the fatal incident.

From the podium at The Museum of Modern Art, Rosalía spoke in Spanish, according to Billboard. “Sending my condolences to all the people affected by the accident that recently occurred in my country,” Rosalía said. “There was a train accident and there were many victims. And the truth is that I would like to send all my love and support to each and every person affected by it.”

Authorities confirmed that at least 69 people were killed when a Madrid-to-Seville train collided with a stationary service near Urda, sending several carriages off the tracks and tumbling down an embankment.

The crash ranks among Europe’s deadliest rail disasters of this century and marks Spain’s worst collision since 2013. Spain declared three days of national mourning on Thursday, and investigators are continuing to examine the tragedy.

The Innovator prize adds to a string of accolades for the Berghain hitmaker, who earlier earned International Artist of the Year at the BRITs in February and International Songwriter of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards in May, among other honors.

This year’s WSJ honourees also included Amy Poehler, writer-director Martin McDonagh, and Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy, among others.
