Meg Mathews has revealed she secretly battled breast cancer.
The former spouse of Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has spoken publicly for the first time about her health scare and the decision to undergo a double mastectomy after receiving a diagnosis in November 2024.
“Fear didn’t overwhelm me when the diagnosis came through. I refused to crumble and dwell on ‘poor me.’ I believed in my strength and knew I would get through it,” she told The Sun newspaper.
“I understood I had to stay positive because things could have swung in the opposite direction and I might have relapsed.”
Mathews stopped drinking in 2017 after battling alcohol and substance dependency during the Britpop era of the 1990s.
Medical professionals suggested chemotherapy or radiotherapy, but Mathews chose a double mastectomy in March 2025, a procedure during which her lymph nodes were removed. Just eleven days after the operation, she was declared cancer-free.
She described the choice to have both breasts removed as an easy one.
“I’ve had so many breast augmentations, they no longer felt like mine anyway,” she told the outlet.
“I’ve undergone five or six since turning 30. Noel even gave me a breast augmentation as a 30th birthday gift.”
The Oasis legend and Mathews were among the era’s most famous couples in the 1990s. Their Las Vegas wedding in 1997 ended in divorce less than four years later.
