Maiya Blaney – Mary Bed EP: A Subtle, Minimalist Collection

November 3, 2026

New York City–based musician Maiya Blaney delivered one of the most slept-on releases from the prior year. Her sophomore album A Room With A Door That Closes offered a captivating journey through haunted noise, hardcore dance energy, and intimate folk. The talented vocalist twisted her voice into playful screams, balmy coos, and a grungy drawl.

Last Friday, she returned with another dynamic release, an EP titled Mary Bed.

Although there’s still a good deal of sampling or noise collage, Mary Bed is softer than A Room With A Door That Closes. Blaney’s voice mostly glides over acoustic guitars and the room’s fuzz. At times you can hear birds chirping and the tactile scratching of her fingers as she changes chords. The closer “haven’t i” is particularly entrancing, reminiscent a bit of Nick Drake.

Mary Bed is out now via Lex Records.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
