Dave Grohl burst into tears after stepping out to perform Highway to Hell with AC/DC at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on October 2, right after he had opened for his heroes for the second time.
Speaking on New Zealand radio station The Rock, he recalled the moment: "It was wild because my wife was right there at the side of the stage. We played Highway To Hell. I walked off the stage and I started crying, like a baby. I was sobbing, like wailing, and I couldn’t believe it. I thought, that is one of the most full-circle moments of my entire life, and I will never forget it. And for the record, that was the loudest stage I’ve ever stood on in my life. Louder than Motörhead, louder than any other band. AC/DC is the loudest band in the world, I think."
Foo Fighters got another chance to back AC/DC after a storm forced the venue to cancel their show on September 25.
They had initially stepped in for The Pretty Reckless at the St. Louis stop of The Power Up tour on September 8.
Grohl admitted it was a "huge f** bucket list check."
He was just as excited to witness one of his favourite bands in action after warming up the crowd.
He told the crowd during their opening slot: “I was so excited to have the honour to open up for AC/DC tonight.
“But now, as excited as I was to have the opportunity, the honour to open up for AC/DC, which has never happened and is a huge f** bucket list check, even more than that, I was mostly excited to get off this stage and f** watch AC/DC for the next couple hours.”
He went on: “So, as much as I loved hanging with you tonight from here.
“I can’t f** wait to hang with y’all tonight from out there.”
Dave said: “We never say goodbye, because we always come back. I don’t know if we’ll ever open for AC/DC again, although honestly I think it’d be a great f** tour."
He also took a moment to thank The Pretty Reckless, stating that "we wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for them."
Dave quipped: “Oh my god, send them a f** cheese basket.”
He concluded: “So thank y’all so much. I can’t wait until the rock and roll band comes on stage and the rock show actually starts. See you around."
