Liquid Mike: The Inert Object

November 5, 2026

Liquid Mike, indeed! What a band this is! How do they manage it? How can they keep churning out blazing tracks after blazing tracks, without sacrificing energy or quality? In their days of relative obscurity, Mike Maple’s Marquette, Michigan-based rock ‘n’ roll outfit quickly released a string of remarkably sharp records. Now that they’re touring, new Liquid Mike tunes don’t appear as often. Yet every fresh release promises a hard-hitting punch.

Their latest record, Hell Is An Airport, arrived a little over a year ago, and their standalone single “Drowning Machine” appeared in May. At present they’re touring with Oso Oso, and they’ve introduced another brand-new track. “Inanimate Object” bursts with buoyant hooks and fuzz-drenched power-pop energy, a raucous meditation on what happens when life ends. It charges forward with intensity. Watch the clip for the track, directed by Bob Sweeney, just below.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
