Australian musician and producer Maxwell Byrne, who formerly crafted electro-pop under the alias Golden Vessel, has unveiled his third full-length dance record, issued under the moniker 1tbsp. Alongside the bright, buoyant single “Wish You Luck,” which features kid on air, the upcoming album big soaps will feature a number of collaborations with Soltera, a Colombian-American artist; Cherry Chola, a Venezuelan-Australian artist; and Miki, who is French-Korean. Today, Byrne reveals one collaboration from that trio: “Carottes.” As Byrne puts it:
miki and i only had two hours, we had a small overlap when i arrived in paris before she left for a tour, but in that short time we wrote three songs (two of which are on big soaps). we really clicked instantly, miki has great taste. she makes all these little snippets of found audio that she collects and edits on ableton. she very generously gave me some, and carottes started with me cutting up her soundbyte to make the main synth chords. at the time i was listening to a lot of greek music and i had came across this 2007 album, remastered 1 by stereo nova, that was a big inspiration for this song.
