The metalcore revival shows no signs of slowing down. Today, a fresh wave of exceptionally young groups, such as I Promised The World and Holder, are drawing sizable crowds by delivering a considered, earnest take on the heavy, melodic, epic metalcore textures that defined the ’00s. Many musicians in this circle likely weren’t around for the release of the classic records they admire, and the bright-eyed South Texas outfit A New Day certainly fits into that cohort. A New Day independently issued their debut EP So Close To Perfection… last year, and they’ve since signed with DAZE, widely regarded as one of the most influential labels in hardcore today, to unveil their next release.
A New Day’s sophomore EP carries the impeccably precise title Held Under An Incandescent Sky, and it is slated to drop next month. The lead single “This Beautiful Deception” opens with one of the most commendably irritating guitar lines you’re likely to hear anytime soon, before expanding into something vast and primal that nods to black metal and Swedish melodic death metal. The Held Under An Incandescent Sky EP is out 10/2 on DAZE. In vaguely related news, A New Day don’t have anything to do with the pro wrestling faction formerly known as the New Day, and the New Day don’t even use that name anymore anyway. They just made the jump from WWE to AEW, and now they’re known as the New Level. They use the A$AP Ferg song as their ring music, and they made a very cool debut in London a few weeks ago.
