It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Barrie Lindsay, the Brooklyn-based artist who records as just plain Barrie. Barrie’s last album was 2022’s Barbara, and she hasn’t issued any solo singles since 2023’s “Hard Candy,” though she did collaborate with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and contribute to a 2024 Margo Guryan tribute album. Today, she’s back.
Barrie’s new single “Gloria” isn’t a Them/Patti Smith cover or a Laura Branigan cover, though it carries some of the same synthetic triumph as Branigan’s work. The track opens with a bright harpsichord workout before evolving into buzzy, psychedelic synthpop. It’s a very fun tune, and Barrie notes, “I’ve been working on this song for four years.” Check it out below.
