BBC Radio 6 Music has formally revealed its Artists of the Year for 2026, recognizing a metamorphic lineup of music pioneers who helped shape the sound and culture of the last year. Announced by Nick Grimshaw on his Breakfast Show, the annual roster spotlights an outstanding mix of fresh talent and established trailblazers, all selected for their creative influence and bold sonic choices.
This year’s esteemed cohort includes beabadoobee, Charli xcx, corto.alto, Erykah Badu, Fontaines D.C., Madra Salach, Mandy, Indiana, Phoebe Bridgers, Robyn, Show Me the Body, Shygirl, and The Cure. Spanning a broad range of genres—from raw post-punk and neo-soul to cutting-edge electronic music and reimagined traditional folk—the chosen artists embody the station’s commitment to boundary-defying soundscapes.
To mark the occasion, 6 Music is launching a multi-platform celebration across radio, BBC Sounds, and BBC iPlayer. Two one-hour special broadcasts feature insights from music icons and enthusiasts such as Olivia Rodrigo, John Cale, A. G. Cook, and The Alchemist, who discuss the cultural footprint of these twelve acts.
Throughout November, listeners can enjoy exclusive guest programming and special broadcasts. Highlights include a four-part Artist in Residence series from Irish folk breakout Madra Salach, Mandy’s Desert Island Disco, Indiana on Lauren Laverne’s show, and live sessions with Show Me the Body and corto.alto. Fans can also revisit standout festival performances, including The Cure’s acclaimed summer set at Primavera Sound 2026.
Commenting on the lineup, 6 Music’s Music Editor Cam Pia stressed the essential role these visionaries play: “Artists sit at the core of everything we do. It feels more crucial than ever to illuminate artistry and the community that sustains it. From iconic, trailblazing comebacks to the thrill of something entirely new, we are honoured to celebrate these innovators.”
All special programming, live session archives, and bespoke collections are streaming on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer.
