Beach House Drummer Graham Hill Unveils Debut Solo Album, Taking in Stars — Hear Monster in My Head

October 30, 2026

In the preceding month, Beach House issued a Robert Lester Folsom cover to honor the 50th anniversary edition of Music And Dreams. Today, Graham Hill, the band’s drummer, unveils his first solo LP, Taking In Stars, and the project is introduced with the twangy lead track “Monster In My Head.”

“I wrote this song after a late-night conversation with my son when he was struggling to fall asleep during his transition into adolescence,” Hill explains. “The line ‘When I hear the smallest thing, and it snowballs into a scream’ was nearly word-for-word how he described the problem to me. His situation involved music looping on repeat that he couldn’t stop. It resonated with me, as someone who has an active mind and a tendency to overthink, especially when there are unresolved or uncertain things playing out in my day-to-day life.”

was co-produced with Donald Markowitz (Van Morrison, Taj Mahal) and features contributions from Shane Theriot (Neville Brothers, Willie Nelson), Gabe Stillman (Buddy Guy, ZZ Top), and more. Hear “Monster In My Head” below.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
