Bimbo Unveils Debut Album, The Bimbonacci Sequence — Listen to Chewing Glass

July 28, 2026

To land a deal with Exploding In Sound, a band typically needs a distinctive, one-word name that sticks in the mind—think Jobber, Ovlov, or Stuck. The label’s latest signing, Bimbo, fits that criterion quite neatly. Originating from Marquette, Michigan, Bimbo describe themselves as “as if the White Stripes were malevolent, unable to write a song in 4/4, and actually siblings.” Today they reveal their debut album, The Bimbonacci Sequence.

Frontwoman/guitarist Gretchen McKenzie and drummer Dawson McKenzie draw from the influences of Metz, the Stooges, the Cramps, and Krill, and the lead single “Chewing Glass” proves as delightfully peculiar as you’d expect. Here’s Gretchen on the track:

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. I constantly torment myself by overthinking everything I buy. I’m horrified by the impact I have on the planet. I feel compelled to shout about it. The line “every time I chew, I chew glass” came from a video I saw on Instagram around 2 a.m. of a very drunk guy who had face-planted through a windshield. I thought it was the most poetic thing I’d ever heard and fixated on that line for a month. I basically paced in circles, muttering it to myself. I can’t locate that video anywhere; I’m not even sure it’s real, but the words are.

I write about music as a cultural signal, following the artists, scenes, releases, and movements that shape how people listen today. My work focuses on discovery, context, and the stories behind the sounds that travel beyond borders.
