Hello there, Cameron Winter—I’ve just been thinking about that fellow. I caught Geese performing at Richmond’s Iron Blossom Festival this past Sunday, and it sparked reflections on the nature of hype. Meanwhile, frontman Winter recently addressed the supposed psyop allegations in a Rolling Stone cover story, and a Paul Thomas Anderson–directed concert film is poised to begin screenings soon. (There’s also a companion live album on the way.) On Tuesday night, Winter quietly debuted a couple of new tracks during a secret solo-piano show in New Orleans.
Word is that Winter turned up at the New Orleans venue BJ’s Lounge for its open-mic night, delivering a handful of unreleased songs along with a few that are already out there. There isn’t any video of the new material. Blogger Ock Sportello notes that Winter took pains to ensure the new numbers weren’t filmed — “if you see a person with a phone, run them out of town” — but he did manage to capture Winter’s performance of “Love Takes Miles.” See it for yourself below.
A new Cameron Winter solo album could very well be right around the corner, or he could simply keep pursuing this path indefinitely.
