Carissa’s Wierd, the Seattle-based duo of Jenn Champion and Mat Brooke, crafted some utterly gorgeous DIY indie records in the early 2000s, and they are returning to that same craft now. The group called it quits in 2003 and members moved on to other ventures, including Band Of Horses. (Brooke was an initial member, and former Carissa’s Wierd frontperson Ben Bridwell remains at the helm of Band Of Horses.) Following a one-off reunion single in 2011, Carissa’s Wierd have reunited and are preparing to release Somewhere Further Than Far Away, their first full-length in 25 years. We’ve already heard the striking lead single “No One Lives Here Anymore.” And now, there’s another new track.
The new Carissa’s Wierd cut is titled “I Don’t Feel Like I Feel Right” — a fitting title — and it proves just as beautifully hypnotic as “No One Lives Here Anymore.” Champion’s down-to-earth, conversational vocal delivery still lands with jaw-dropping force over those glinting, jangly guitars; it’s enough to make time feel suspended. Champion reflects, “Mat and I have lived a lot of lives together. This is kind of a reckoning with our past and present, and how a relationship can seem fated to endure regardless of what happens along the way.” Watch the video below.
Somewhere Further Than Far Away is set for release on 1/8 via Nettwerk.
